Sorry for not doing a newsletter last month, I may do a newsletter every other month for a while until there is more to write about.
Needs We need financial supporters, I have always been the type of guy to try to pay for everything with money we earn ourselves, but until our businesses are doing better than they are now, that is not sufficient. There are things we would like to do but we cannot afford to do them now. Hopefully we can gather 300-500 dollars a month in support that we can use to get things going quicker. That is our goal for raising support anyway. We will be thankful with whatever the Lord provides, and again, we like working, and are proud of our "tent-making", when paul writes about this, he indicates that hard work is something to be proud of, so we are, and will continue to be. Visa We are at the final stages of getting fangs visa now, but they asked for a few more things, hopefully we will get an interview date soon, and then we can really make plans. Please pray for us, that we can come soon. Calvin is asking everyday now when he gets to come to America. Christmas This year was a great year, we got to share with many about the true meaning of Christmas, and I have plenty of ideas for next year as well. The kids enjoyed their presents, and we enjoyed time off. Focus on symbolism I have been working on a side project to use for homeschooling and in class based on "the biggest story" book which we really like, and think is an excellent resource. I am done with that project for now, but walking away from it, i realise the power of symbolism. The book utilizes icons and symbols in a way that feels mysterious. So then i was thinking about how to free masons use the same kind of symbols and ceremony to create mystery. As a graphic designer, i want to create art that has the same kind of effect. I want people to gossip about what it means until finally someone asks us, then they can go and gossip some more. I have a suspicion that this would spread the gospel faster than preaching from the front porch. It is one tool in an arsenal of many. Jesus used parables, and the early church used those parables and stories and turned them into icons and symbols which helped the church grow even through persecution. I have a free brick wall over our bakery's storefront which we don't use yet. I have long planned on putting a sign there but now i am thinking banners. A cable and pulley system with banners that clip on, and can be pulled over and switched out month to month from the upstairs bedroom window. Some months it will be a bakery advertisement, others a subtle english lesson/tip, and around the holidays symbolic artwork with with a short message a simple riddle that is not too hard to solve but is mysterious enough people talk. My wife thinks its creepy but having recently read through the biggest story, i think it can be done in a way that is deep but not creepy. Have you ever listened to a Christmas song and it felt spooky? That's what i am going for here. Somehow christmas and the symbols of christmas have snuck their way into buddhist and muslim countries, creating opportunities for christians to share the hidden meanings, the secrets under the surface, the important meaning of life itself. Building projects completed I have taken an old antique tv, taken it apart and cut the t.v. tube so i can use the glass on the front, the back of the glass i made into a very cool looking light for fang in the bakery. The front glass panel is the same size as an old computer monitor, so i will put it all together, shorten the box to about the size of a brief case, and add a handle, i will remake the particle board box with plywood, and use copper to protect the corners. Basically it will be an antique t.v. that is really a modern p.c. but in 4:3 aspect ratio, which can be carried around like a brief case, and plugged in anywhere. I will run android on it with a retro iconpack and everything enlarged significantly. I will have old bible videos that are in 4:3 in there for the kids to watch instead of youtube, and also some old nintindo 64 games run on an emulator called retroarch. Basically its a nostalgia box. Kind of an unnessesary project, but its been in my head driving me nuts, so im getting it out of the way, and then i can move on. It will be off most of the time, but useful when we need to kids to sit down and be quiet when fang has lots of customers. We dont have a t.v. so this is our alternative that we are in control of. I did get a new mold, and will try it out this week. I will try paper pulp and wheat paste with no cement this time as an alternative to my normal papercrete that i am happy with. I do want to continue to experiment in making new materials. Homeschooling Calvin is getting very good at math, and memorizing his verses in thai and english. I am beginning to understand why homeschooled kids are so much faster. If he finishes he gets to play games, and oh boy does he move quick after that lol. So now i have to find more for him to do. I think its time to move on to fractions and multiplication. We started reading a chapter book and talking about it, and he did really well, so that made me feel very encouraged. He is 5 so i think that's pretty good, i wasn't reading chapter books when i was 5. Creed Still putting the finishing touches on the gospel creed, based on ordo solutis. I think it will really be the most important thing we can do here to bring true unity across denominational lines, and bring those who believe in the gospel of the bible together, ensuring those who don't do not hinder those of us who do. Its a simple concept, but us protestants are all over the place and there is a lack of unity. We have the same Word, there should be unity. Conclusion We are working to preach the gospel in an unreached place, occasionally reached by the false gospels of prosperity and decisional regeneration, but hardly the true gospel. Starting from scratch in an area that has a few churches feels weird but this was the situation in the early church as well, Paul addresses the true church about those cults and groups who preach a different gospel, a different christ. We are praying and working hard to produce resources and teach the truth and proclaim the gospel so that the clouds of confusion are cleared and the light of the gospel of truth opens the eyes of unbelievers. It is very dark, idolatry is rampant, the authorities are corrupt, and the people seek only after money and comfort. Please pray that Gods sheep would hear and believe and enter into new eternal life with Him forever. Thank you again for your prayer and support.
